Classic Movie: The Tale of Ruby Rose

May 6 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

(Gold Coin donation)

Henry Rose traps wallabies and possum for their skins in the Central Highlands of Tasmania in 1933. He and his wife Ruby (played by Melita Jurisic) have lived here for seven years, in a primitive slab hut. The isolation takes a toll on Ruby, who is much younger, and on their adopted son Gem.

An iconic Tasmanian film, The Tale of Ruby Rose won 4 awards at the 1987 Venice Biennale Film Festival yet failed to get mainstream cinema release in Australia
